The Inside Scoop

The Community is launched

August 25, 2010

Hi all,

Finally! It's been a long time coming and we're glad to announce that the video editing community is now up and running.

This community is not to be confused with our business offerings. The community is meant to be a website where you as a user can edit and share your videos, for free. Our business offerings on the other hand allows you to add the editor to your own webpage.

Some features of the community are:
  • Edit video in the brand new editor!
  • Export videos to YouTube, or embed on your blog
  • Download edited videos to your computer in many formats
  • Critique other's videos via the guestbook

We hope you'll find all these (and many more) to your liking. If you find that something isn't working or you would like to request a feature, don't hesitate to send an email to info [at] jaycut [dot] com.

Enjoy!

Hi baepl001,
The maximum length of published movies are set to 30 minutes to avoid people from publishing copyright protected content. The service is free of charge and you can have any amount of uploaded content and published movies.

As our ambition is to continue to offer a free service unfortunately we will need to remove users that don't use our service anymore (including uploaded media). The reason for this is to free up storage for new and frequently users and to continue to offer the service for free. As of today the limit for inactivity is set to 3 months.

Good luck and thanks again for your nice words!

/Andreas

Hi,
Thank you for all your questions!
Please write your general questions here instead: http://jaycut.userecho.com/forum/718-community/

Just like to add my praise to the mix. Thank you.

Like others who posted before me, I'm thinking of using JayCut for teaching purposes. What limitations are there? How long of a video (or what size) can any user have? Is there a limit for the number of videos any single user can make or download for non-commercial purposes.

Again. This is a great tool. Thank you for making it available.

To upload your content to YouTube simply click the "Publish / download button", select web and a YouTube option should be available.

Best
Andreas

Comment by BARRcode 2010-08-05 17:44

actually now reading comments, it seems you ignore posts asking to be able to delete uploaded videos. Any reason?

Comment by BARRcode 2010-08-05 17:27

so how do you delete Video's? is there a way? seems to be a privacy flaw.

how do i delete my account?

Comment by Jonas 2010-05-12 18:48

Hey all, thanks for the feedback! Sorry for this delayed reply, I had totally missed this overwhelming response :)

I'm glad most of you like it! To answer the most common questions we're soon adding the option to delete uploaded media in the editor, as well as your own account if you would so like. If you want to delete a mix you've created, simply go to your profile page and check out the alternative mix browsing view (non-flash) where there is a red cross on each thumbnail.

Comment by mrfantastic25 2010-04-13 19:32

I would like to be able to delete videos as well, is there a feature to do that?

Comment by SrebrenicaGenocide 2010-04-11 07:10

This is amazing. JayCut is simply amazing. It's a perfect service. Wow. Amazing.

This is great, and we're using it to actively edit videos for our Faces of Change series!

We're wondering if there was an option to delete slides or images from your library? It seems that all of our files uploaded cannot be deleted or reordered.

Comment by Xlq 2010-04-06 10:47

Yeah!

Nice that you are back.

Taking it for a test-run now... I'm a Journalist and also teach. I'm hoping I can use this on the field as well as for my students. It seems at first look nice and easy to use. Is there a limit to the clip uploads size ? or number?

Something I noticed... and would like to have...

- ability to scroll video frames with my keyboard (< - >) on the timeline and/or video player with the mouse is too easy to miss.

Hi, great work! Has basic functions for basic editing, excellent and easy to understand. Two things I can´t find: deleting videos, how do I do that? Secondly, everytime I publish in a new format a new copy is saved to my profile. And because I can´t delete it it means a lot of copies of the same file. Apart from that, excellent!

Comment by steel19 2010-04-04 23:22

Overall the editor is really user friendly. Everything is highly intuitive. Does Jaycut have future plans for allowing the creation of sub-communitites?

FYI -- I'm unable to change my profile picture. I've deleted and reloaded a new image, but my original image continues to appear.

Comment by steel19 2010-04-04 17:33

This is a great tool. Congrats and Thank you.

Thank you for launching the new, long-awaited Jaycut!

Will collaboration, something like Google Docs, where you can have a group all having editing rights to the same file -- in this case, a video -- be a feature in the future?

Thanks, again!

Hey, I'm glad you all like it, and thanks for all the kind words!

@cvram we do support mp4 (the container) and a huge bunch of codecs for that mp4. But there are always some codecs which one misses, often really new ones from cellphones and sometimes digital cameras. If you would like, feel free to email the file you tried to upload to info [at] jaycut [dot] com and say it's for Jonas, and I'll be happy to do some analysis of it

Comment by cvram 2010-03-31 21:34

does it work with mp4 files, i tried uploading one and it did not save

Hi Jonas Thank you so much for putting a video editor online. Its breathtaking! As a retired Art Director, I know the hard work that goes into the development of such a project. Well Done! Regards, David, DE, USA Profile: http://jaycut.com/user/190
